Surrey-based students train hands-on at BC Medical Aesthetic's Coquitlam campus — a short Expo Line SkyTrain ride or Highway 1 drive away, learning on real clients across every major laser platform.
Surrey is British Columbia's fastest-growing city, and its beauty and wellness economy is growing right alongside it. From the med-spas and skin clinics clustered along King George Boulevard to the newer wellness studios opening near Fraser Highway and Guildford, demand for trained laser technicians keeps climbing. Yet there is still no dedicated laser-technician college inside Surrey itself — which is exactly why so many Surrey students enrol with us. Our campus sits in nearby Coquitlam, an easy commute, and our laser training program is built around the one thing online courses can never offer: real, supervised treatment hours on real clients.
What makes Surrey unique as a market is its remarkable diversity. The city is home to one of the largest South Asian populations in Canada, plus significant Filipino, Chinese, and Middle Eastern communities. In practical terms, that means a clientele rich in Fitzpatrick skin types IV through VI — darker, melanin-rich skin that requires a technician who genuinely understands wavelength selection. This is where formal training pays off. Treating deeper skin tones safely is built on mastering the Nd:YAG 1064nm platform, the gold standard for hair removal on pigmented skin because its longer wavelength bypasses surface melanin and targets the follicle directly. A Surrey technician who can confidently and safely treat the full Fitzpatrick spectrum is far more employable than one trained only on lighter skin.
Your training is led by Manucher Nick, a NACC-certified instructor with 13+ years working as a dermatologist assistant and cosmetic laser specialist. Classes are deliberately small, so you are never watching from the back of a lecture hall. You work directly on the equipment and on live clients under supervision.
For students who want to go further, our Advanced Aesthetic Dermatology program and the comprehensive Master of Cosmetic Diploma bundle multiple disciplines into a single credential.
BC does not issue a specific provincial laser licence, but employers and insurers will not hire or cover a technician without formal training from a recognized institution. That is the practical barrier between you and a job. Surrey's growth means new clinics open constantly, and many prefer to hire locally so staff have short commutes and understand the community they serve. Graduates frequently find roles in the Newton, Fleetwood, South Surrey, and Cloverdale areas, and a fully trained, multi-platform technician can command stronger pay than a single-machine operator. Many of our graduates also use their certification to open their own studio — a realistic path in a city adding thousands of new residents every year.
The commute is genuinely manageable. By transit, take the Expo Line SkyTrain from King George, Surrey Central, or Gateway and connect toward Lougheed Town Centre or Coquitlam Central — no car required. By car, Highway 1 over the Port Mann Bridge brings you into Coquitlam in roughly 20-30 minutes outside peak hours. Because our intakes are rolling and monthly, you can start when your schedule allows rather than waiting for a fixed semester.
Individual laser courses are approximately $1,650 ($1,500 tuition plus $150 in fees). The Advanced Aesthetic Dermatology program is $3,900, and the Master of Cosmetic Diploma is $7,750. We accept StudentAid BC and offer in-house payment plans — see our financing options to find the right fit.
